Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Specialization for a SOLIDEX engineer
19.01.2005
One of the long-standing and most experienced SOLIDEX engineers has obtained the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) specialization which attests to his experience and competencies in the area of broadly understood IT system security. This certification is awarded by the independent organization "International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium, Inc." - (ISC)2, confirmed by the course of professional career comprising a minimum of 3 years of engagement in managing/designing projects relating to IT security, declaration to observe the rules of professional ethics and the passing of the examination. The exam has the form of a six hours' written test and covers six thematic areas relating to security, beginning with the aspects of physical through technological security to legal and ethical subjects.
CISSP certification has been the first in the IT sector to be recognized by the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission as fulfilling the requirements of ISO/IEC 17024 standard. In a ranking of IT certificates, made by CertCities.com on the basis of a questionnaire of November 2004, CISSP ranked third among most valued certificates (following Cisco CCIE and Microsoft MCSE) and first among certificates concerning security (ahead of Cisco CCSP and Microsoft MCSE: Security).
As concerns IT security, there is no possibility to definitely verify its level through tests, and what is required is rational confidence in technologies, products, designs and, above all, in people who implement, supervise and audit them. The CISSP certificate warrants that its holder has very extensive knowledge in this complex field which is not fully measurable.
