Polish Olympic Portal
06.07.2004
5 weeks before the official opening of the Olympic Games in Athens , the Polish Olympic Committee opened the largest Olympic movement portal in Poland - www.olimpijski.pl. The portal was financed by the Ministry of Science and Information Technology.
According to project assumptions, the Polish Olympic Portal must meet the following goals: use the Internet as a tool supporting and promoting sports in Poland , ensure direct access to information about Olympic games, encourage discussion and participation in public and sport life, build an e-community, create an archive of materials about the most important sport events, and promote Polish sports in the world.
The www.olimpijski.pl portal was implemented by a new technologies company, WebService, on the basis of the RedDot CMS platform. Content was delivered by a specialized external company. "With such great volumes of information as those included in the Portal, the only effective solution that could fully support Portal implementation and assist in management of few editors at the same time was an advanced CMS system. For this reason, we chose CMS RedDot", says Krzysztof Kacprzyk, Client Service Manager at WebService.
In terms of the amount of information, the Polish Olympic Portal is the largest one of the type in Poland. With the Portal, web surfers have access to an archive of information about all modern Olympic Games, medal statistics, Olympian profiles, or a multimedia archive, which can be used to live again through the moments of glory of Polish team members.
The Polish Olympic Committee , born from a social movement to unite outstanding volunteers of sport and cultural life, is a national union of sport organizations and associations. For over 80 years it has been actively involved in various activities, creating conditions and organizing participation of Polish teams in Olympic Games, promoting the Olympic idea and popularizing sports, incorporating the Polish sport movement into the world Olympic family and ensuring permanent contacts between Polish sports and the international Olympic movement, taking various actions in Olympic education and contributing to permanent ties between sports and arts.
